Montecharola,
Almodovar, Lower Alentejo, Southern Portugal
(Bed and Breakfast)
Restored farmhouse in Southern Portugal's Alentejo
Bed and Breakfast accommodation in part of small house with private
bath with breakfast. Ideal for Algarve bound road travellers. Being
only 20 km from the Algarve region, this is a rugged hilly area with
a genuine Portuguese regional character where the views of parklands
of Cork Oak, pasture and small horticulture holdings envelops the
viewer from the vantage position of Montecharola . There are intriguing
archeological remains nearby and chance to visit the Castro Verde
area for great-bustard spotting and all year round variety of bird
life. This is an area undisturbed by development. Traffic is rare
and access is by 2 km unmade road.
Set in a rural community in Southern Portugal's Lower Alentejo. 20
miles before the southernmost Algarve region is the Alentejo - its
dazzlingly vast expanses relieved by gentle hills highlighted by white
towns and isolated farmhouses. With a sparse population living within
an enticing landscape that since pre Roman times has changed little,
the Alentejo retains a simple charm. Nature here is pure, people's
love for the land a source of inspiration.. The farmhouse 'Montecharola',
with its 6 acres of land, was purchased by the owners about 7 years
ago. (They are the first non-portuguese to inhabit the thick rock
walls, the rustic simplicity of traditional details of this home).
Aware of a sense of indebtedness to the past unknown craftsmen that
laboured here, they have strived to translate in a congenial way a
need for comfort while restoring their home of Montecharola .
