Description
Set in the street of Milton Abbas, Primrose Cottage is one of
the semi-detached cob and thatched houses that make up a unique
village created around 1770 by Lord Milton and landscaped by Capability
Brown. The
story alone of how, over a generation, he erased the town of Middleton
to allow himself to enjoy exclusively his stately home and the
peace and quiet of the Abbey makes the village worth a visit.
The 'model
village' itself is said by many to be one of the prettiest in
England. Certainly each house has individual charm whilst the
winding valley setting with its lake at the bottom is the ideal
base for walking through the Dorset countryside. The village is
situated between Dorchester and Blandford Forum in the middle
of Hardy country. Thomas Hardy's cottage being less than seven
miles away. The coast at Weymouth is half an hour whilst Lyme
Regis with its Cobb, are to the west.
More places
of interest such as Chesil Bank, Portland, Corfe Castle, Cerne
Abbas Man, and others are less than 30 minutes away. Nothing is
far away in Dorset including cream teas!.
