Like most bands of the beat era, Muswell Hill's finest started out as an R&B / blues combo, named The Ravens, before hotshot producer Larry 'Goggles' Page re-christened them The Kinks and they became one of the influential rock bands of the 60's and 70's. Band members, old and new, include Ray Davies, Dave Davies, Mick Avory, Pete Quaife, John Dalton, John Gosling, Andy Pyle, Gordon Edwards, Mark Haley, Jim Rodford, Ian Gibbons, Bob Henrit and Bill Shankey plays with Ray Davies. In fact, despite the fact that the Britpop era of the mid-90's has been and gone, The Kinks still exert a powerful influence over the modern musical scene. The Kinks' career kicked-off in earnest during 1964 when, after two failed singles, the release of You Really Got Me saw the group ascend to the major league. With great hits such as All Day And All Of The Night, Tired Of Waiting For You, Sunny Afternoon, Dedicated Follower Of Fashion, Waterloo Sunset they have made their mark in pop history. The Kinks had a mini revival in the 90's and Ray Davies has re-grouped with the new Kinks and still performs today to keep The Kinks fame alive. | |||||||||||||
