Front door displays "offensive" St George's flag design
An ex-soldier has been told to repaint his St George's flag front door by housing association after it was deemed offensive and distressing.
Steven Rolfe painted the St George's flag on his front door in 2003.
He received a letter ten years on saying neighbours could be 'alarmed'.
Landlords have now apologised for saying it could be 'offensive' but they insist he must repaint door as he does not have proper permission. |

Weight warning to young people on diabetes risks
Type 2 diabetes rise in under-40s, says Cardiff research. People under 40 are being warned to watch their weight as researchers find a sharp rise in the number with type 2 diabetes.
Cardiff University found the incidence trebled in the UK population between 1991 and 2010, but rose nearly ten-fold among under-40s. They now account for 12% of all newly diagnosed cases, up from 5%.
"Essentially we are a nation of lazy porkers," research leader Prof Craig Currie told BBC Radio Five live. "As a consequence at a very young age we are getting a disease that later will lead to a number of severe complications potentially. "You have got to have lived on Mars if you don't realise that being fat is going to cause you a few problems." |

Fasting diets are dismissed as a fad
Fasting diets dismissed as a fad by nutrition experts who warn of the dangers of starving the body of vital nutrients
The diet craze of the moment involves fasting for two days a week.
Irish Nutrition and Dietetic Institute warn of loss of vitamins and minerals. They advise people to seek nutritional advice before following the 'fad'.
This week TV presenter Phillip Schofield was the latest to reveal he's a fan of the weight loss plan of the moment -The Fast Diet.
The eating plan, and others like it such as The 5:2 diet, are taking Britain by storm and involve intermittent fasting. Phillip Schofield admitted he has lost 9lb since sticking to it.
Followers must only consume 500 calories (600 for men) on two fasting days a week and can then eat what they want on the other five days. |

The true cost of Gambling
We all live with an inherent desire to achieve our dreams. It's a physiological fact of life - the instinct to fulfil and better ourselves. Gambling, be it visiting a betting shop, online flutters or simply buying a Lotto ticket, satisfies that need.
We play to win - not to lose.
More than £40bn was wagered on high-speed, high-stakes gambling machines inside Bookies shops in London from April 2011 to March 2012 according to estimates.
Less than half of that could have saved Cyprus from financial meltdown. But the gambling industry has made some people (not many) a lot happier - March 6th 2013 : Paddy Power reports 15% surge in pre-tax profits to €139m. 12th March 2013 : Ladbrokes boss lands £4.6m in pay and bonuses.
